TurkStream operator applied for export license renewal
MOSCOW, September 29 – RIA Novosti. The company said that Turkish Stream operator South Stream Transport BV has applied for the renewal of its export license and is waiting for a response from the Dutch authorities.
Earlier on Thursday, the operator said that new EU sanctions on September 18 resulted in the early cancellation of the TurkStream operator’s export license, but did not limit the continuation of gas transport. Official notification about this was sent by the Dutch authorities.
“To continue to provide safe and reliable gas supply over the long term, South Stream Transport BV has applied for renewal of its export license and is awaiting a response from the relevant Dutch authorities,” the statement said.
The company states that it has all legal grounds to obtain an exemption under the applicable sanctions regulation of the European Union 833/2014 (Article 3, paragraph 3a). The natural gas pipeline operator explains this by the fact that the gas transported by the Turkish Stream is then delivered to European countries via national gas transmission systems, thereby participating in ensuring Europe’s energy security.
Turkish Stream is a gas pipeline from Russia to Turkey via the Black Sea. Its design capacity is 31.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Gazprom supplies transit gas to Turkey via Turkish Stream and to Southern and Southeastern European countries via Turkish territory.
