Japan imposes sanctions on 81 people and nine companies from Russia

TOKYO, October 7 – RIA Novosti. Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a news conference on Friday that Japan will impose new personal sanctions against people “directly connected” with the annexation of new territories to Russia.

Referendums on the entry of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the Russian Federation were held on September 23-27. 99.23% of the voters in the DPR, 98.42% in the LPR, 87.05% in the Kherson region and 93.11% of the voters in the Zaporozhye region supported this decision. On September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke in the Kremlin after the results of the referendum, after which he signed agreements with the heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions on the admission of the regions to Russia. Putin signed federal laws on Wednesday confirming the admission of these territories to the Russian Federation.

“About the situation in Ukraine: our country will freeze the assets of people from the eastern regions of Ukraine, as well as from Russia, who are directly involved in the annexation of part of the territory in Ukraine to Russia, which we call annexation. It was decided at this Cabinet meeting” said.

Japan’s new sanctions list includes the concern “Kalashnikov” and “Rostec”.

On Friday, a ban on the export of 89 items of chemical weapons-related goods and materials to Russia came into effect.

Previously, Japan had banned trucks, dump trucks and bulldozers for export to Russia. Prior to this, a ban was imposed on the export of luxury goods to Russia, including luxury cars, expensive alcoholic beverages, cosmetics and leather goods. Also export to Russia high-tech equipment for oil refining, quantum computers and their components, electron microscopes, atomic force microscopes, 3D printers and consumables for them, equipment for the production of organic light-emitting diodes, production equipment microelectromechanical circuits, hydrogen fuel and renewable energy equipment for the production of high-efficiency solar panels, vacuum pumps, cooling equipment designed for extremely low temperatures, materials that make it difficult to detect electromagnetic waves, and other equipment.

It is forbidden to import certain types of wood, vodka and other goods from Russia to Japan.

The sanctions imposed by the Japanese government since the beginning of the events in Ukraine apply to 818 people from Russia, LPR and DPR, 227 Russian companies and organizations and 11 banks.

The West has increased the pressure on Russia to impose sanctions on Ukraine, which has resulted in higher electricity, fuel and food prices in Europe and the US. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of controlling and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West and that the sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main purpose of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that it will solve all the problems created by Russia.
