The Ministry of Transport is studying the idea of ​​​​creating new railway lines to China in the Amur Region and Transbaikalia.

MOSCOW, November 22 – RIA Novosti. Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Valentin Ivanov said that the Russian Ministry of Transport is considering options for creating two new railway lines to China in the Amur Region and the Trans-Baikal Region.

He recalled the opening of a new railway border crossing with an annual capacity of 5 million tons in Nizhneleninskoye-Tongjiang, the Russia-China division.

“We are currently working on creating two new railway lines with the border crossings of the Russian-Chinese sections of Dzhalinda – Mohe in the Amur Region and Priargunsky – Hailar in the Trans-Baikal Territory,” Ivanov said on Tuesday. According to him, a lot depends on the Chinese side lifting the covid restrictions. Ivanov explained that removing these restrictions would increase volume by one and a half times.

The deputy head of the Ministry of Transport said that efforts have been made in recent months to increase the transit capacity of the checkpoints on the Russia-China border. “Currently, measures are foreseen for the construction and reconstruction of 10 priority checkpoints in the direction of China.”
