Airbus spokesperson Scholhorn announces plans to abandon Russian titanium
MOSCOW, December 2 – RIA Novosti. The head of the company’s defense and space division, Michael Scholhorn, said European aircraft manufacturer Airbus plans to halt Russian titanium imports in a few months.
The world’s largest titanium producer is the Russian company VSMPO-Avisma, whose partners include Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, Rolls-Royce, Safran Aircraft Engines. As FG Finam has estimated for RIA Novosti, VSMPO-Avisma provides up to 30% of titanium supply for the global aerospace industry, including up to 40% of Boeing’s titanium needs and up to 60% of Airbus’ needs. .
“We are in the process of severing ties with Russia on the titanium issue. It’s a matter of the month, not the year. I can’t give an exact date, it’s a very complex process, but it will happen,” Scholhorn said at a briefing in Munich, quoted by Reuters.
Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury wrote in the Wall Street Journal in August that “it would be the end of history” if VSMPO-Avisma stopped supplying metals to the global aerospace industry.
Airbus is one of the world’s largest aerospace and defense companies. Airbus SAS, which produces passenger aircraft, consists of Airbus Defense and Space (defense and aviation products and services) and Airbus Helicopters (helicopter production) divisions. The number of employees is more than 130 thousand people.
