Dominican Ambassador Hannenberg: Russian economy will only benefit from Western sanctions
MOSCOW, December 4 – RIA Novosti. Hans Dannenberg, Dominik’s Ambassador to Moscow, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that in the long run, the Russian economy will only benefit from Western sanctions.
He noted that he thinks the Western sanctions imposed on Russia in 2014 have had a positive effect on Russian-made products – as some goods cannot be imported from Europe, Russia has learned how to do them.
“So if the sanctions in 2014 affected the quality of Russian-made cheese and sausages, the sanctions imposed this year will improve many other factors. And in the long run, the Russian economy will only benefit from the sanctions. The sanctions help countries develop their own economies,” he said.
The West has stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia through Ukraine, which has led to higher electricity, fuel and food prices in Europe and the US. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West and that the sanctions deal a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main purpose of the West is to make the lives of millions of people worse.
The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that Russia will solve all the problems that the West has created for itself.
