China sues WTO over US export controls on Chinese products

BEIJING, December 12 – RIA Novosti. China’s Ministry of Commerce said on Monday that Beijing is suing the World Trade Organization (WTO) over the United States’ enforcement of export controls on chips and other products against China.

On December 12, 2022, China applied to the World Trade Organization dispute resolution mechanism because the US had previously imposed export controls on chips and other products against China.

“China’s application to the WTO aims to resolve the Chinese side’s problem through legal means and is a necessary way to protect Beijing’s legitimate rights and interests,” the ministry said in a statement.

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced in early October that Washington was limiting its supply of products to 28 Chinese companies for supercomputer and semiconductor manufacturing. US President Joe Biden also signed a $52.7 billion bailout for US semiconductor manufacturers to strengthen their competitive position with China.
