German Finance Minister Lindner described the rising gas prices in the country as “a new standard”.

BERLIN, 1 January – RIA Novosti. German Finance Minister Christian Lindner declaration About the “new standard” in connection with the increased prices of energy and energy carriers due to the absence of Russian gas.

When Bild am Sonntag was asked whether he expects consistently high energy and energy prices, Lindner said, “This will be the new standard. For logistical reasons alone, gas passing through LNG terminals is more expensive than Russian pipeline gas.”

At the same time, the finance minister confirmed that he expects a slight decrease in inflation.

“We expect 7% in 2023, but numbers will continue to decline as predicted in 2024 and beyond,” he said.

Lindner said the slowdown should be a top priority for the European Central Bank and the federal government because “continuously high inflation will erode Germany’s economic base.”

The minister also called for the lifting of the ban on the extraction of shale gas by hydraulic fracturing.

After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, the West increased the pressure of sanctions on Russia, which led to higher prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the USA. At the same time, as Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out, the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and the sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire world economy.
