Food prices in Austria increased by 16.1% in December compared to December 2021
VIENNA, 16 January – RIA Novosti. In December, the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages in Austria increased by 16.1% and the minimum food basket price by 15.7% compared to December 2021, reported the national statistics office on Monday.
On a monthly basis – compared to November – food inflation was 1.4% and the basket rose 1%, according to the agency.
Milk, cheese and egg prices increased the most in December with 24% compared to December 2021. Meat and bread prices increased significantly – 18.1% and 16.1%, respectively. Prices for vegetable products increased by an average of 14.9%, and for fruits by an average of 4.4%.
The statistics office writes that for the year from December to December, the price of oils and fats increased by 28.6%. Soft drinks were 14.9% more expensive in December 2022 than in December 2021; this includes a 15.9% price increase for coffee and a 12.1% price increase for soft drinks.
In Austria, the consumption index was 116.1 percent in December (compared with the baseline data from 2020).
