Putin says very low inflation will lead to disruptions in the economy

S. PETERSBURG, January 18 – RIA Novosti. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that inflation in Russia tends to slow down, but it cannot be reduced too much, which may cause disruptions in the economy.

He noted that inflation was less than 12% last year. “To put it simply, they have their own ambush. If inflation is completely bypassed, there may be some disruptions in the economy. The Central Bank is acting as it will be somewhere around 5-7 percent.” The president added.

In its medium-term forecast, the Central Bank expects 2023 inflation to be around 5-7%. According to Rosstat, inflation in Russia at the end of 2022 stood at 11.94%.

At the same time, Putin emphasized that the indexation of the minimum wage and other components that affect the real income level of citizens should be higher than inflation.
