Indonesian Minister Disappointed by Country’s Failure to Buy Russian Oil
MOSCOW, January 27 – RIA Novosti. Luhut Panjaitan, Indonesia’s minister for maritime and investment, expressed his disappointment that his country has not yet been able to buy Russian oil.
According to the minister running the local portal DeticPanjaitan even went to Russia to discuss the matter, “but after the five-month wait, the possibility of purchasing crude oil in Russia did not appear.”
Speaking at an investment forum in Jakarta, Panjaitan said, “Since the oil price has dropped, can’t you offer us to buy it? We’re waiting, please hurry up.”
Indonesia’s state oil producer PT Pertamina said some time ago that it was still considering buying crude from Russia. In November 2022, Pertamina’s director, Nike Vidyawati, said that evaluating the possibility of buying oil from Russia takes into account many factors, including political and economic ones.
In December, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Moscow, Jose Tavares, told RIA Novosti that Indonesia will seek the best price quote for oil, albeit through negotiations with suppliers in the world market, including Russia.
