Novak: Work is underway to accelerate the construction of the Far East route and Power of Siberia 2
MOSCOW, February 13 – RIA Novosti. Gazprom is working to accelerate the construction of the Far Eastern route and Siberian Power 2, the projects will attract additional investments of trillions of rubles, knowledgeable Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak in his author’s article in the journal “Energy Policy”.
“We see growth potential in gas supply to the Asia-Pacific Region. Studies have been intensified to further diversify the export infrastructure. For this purpose, Gazprom on behalf of the Russian President is working to accelerate the construction of the Far East. Novak said, “The Eastern route and the Power of Siberia. 2 natural gas pipelines,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister states that the development of these projects requires an additional direct investment of 4-5 trillion rubles and in related industries, namely metallurgy, cement industry, chemical industry, etc.
In early February 2022, Gazprom signed a long-term contract with the China National Oil and Gas Corporation for the export of 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year via the Far East route. And at the end of January, Russia and China signed an intergovernmental agreement on this route, the document has not yet been ratified.
The development of the “Chinese vector” is also connected with the route, which includes the construction of the Siberian Power 2 pipeline for 50 billion cubic meters per year through Mongolia. The project is being worked on. Gazprom currently supplies gas to China through the Power of Siberia pipeline.
