Industry and Trade Minister Manturov: Russia continues to develop a supersonic business jet
ABU DHABI, February 20 – RIA Novosti. Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, told reporters that the Russian Federation continues to develop a supersonic business jet, the UAE is interested in participating in the project.
“First of all, this is a Russian project. We also invited colleagues at the level of research institutes of the Russian Federation and UAE to this project. Such studies and such collaborations are being done, but they are not at an active stage so far,” he said.
When asked about the UAE’s interest in continuing to participate in this project, Manturov added, “The interest remains.”
Manturov explained that the Russian Federation invites the UAE side to possible participation in the development phase and the privilege of research work (R&D). “We only want to have a technology demonstrator in 2027. A technology demonstrator, not a prototype. A prototype is a huge investment, the first task is to develop the technology itself,” he said.
The project to create a supersonic aircraft in the Russian Federation was announced in 2019. In particular, it was thought that the joint venture of the sovereign fund of the United Arab Emirates Mubadala would be engaged in creating a business jet.
