Finnish customs see multiple spikes in crime at the Russian border due to sanctions
HELSINKI, March 10 – RIA Novosti. EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus significantly increased the number of customs offenses at the border of the Russian Federation in 2022, informs Finnish customs on Friday.
“The massive increase in regulatory crimes is one of the most significant changes that took place last year. As a result of the sanctions imposed on Russia and Belarus in 2022, the number of regulatory crimes subject to preliminary investigation exceeded 300. In the announcement, Finnish Customs Enforcement Chief Hannu Sinkkonen quoted there were only a few cases of regulatory offenses.
According to the report, in 2022, Finnish customs detected 6,482 customs offenses, more than 1,000 compared to 2021. In total, Finnish customs prevented customs violations in excess of 100 million euros in 2022.
The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that the country will cope with the pressure of sanctions that the West began to impose on Russia a few years ago and continues to increase. Moscow noted that the West did not have the courage to accept the failure of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In the Western countries themselves, the opinion that the anti-Russian sanctions are ineffective has repeatedly been heard.
