Nabiullina: The use of digital rubles will be voluntary, people will be able to choose
MOSCOW, April 20 – RIA Novosti. Speaking in the State Duma, the head of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, said that the use of digital rubles will be optional, a person will have the opportunity to choose between different types of money.
“The main thing we will talk about is volunteering. It will be the choice of the person. For example, some people do not use smartphones, they will not. Other types of money, both cash and non-cash, they are used to, they will always be available,” – said Nabiullina.
The creation of the prototype of the digital ruble platform was completed in December 2021. The issuer and operator of the platform is the Central Bank. It is planned that customers will open electronic wallets through financial institutions and make transactions through these wallets.
The Central Bank of the Russian Federation stated that it is not planned to forcefully transfer salaries or pensions to digital rubles, as well as the transfer of all social payments to digital rubles only. And just as there is no expiration date for non-cash or cash, the digital ruble will not have an expiration date.
