CNN: Speaker of the US House of Representatives McCarthy accepts Biden’s invitation to discuss national debt
MOSCOW, May 2 – RIA Novosti. Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy has accepted the invitation of US President Joe Biden to meet to discuss the national debt ceiling. CNN citing a knowledgeable source.
Earlier, the press service of the American leader reported that Biden invited four congressional leaders – the leaders of the majority and minority of both houses – to a meeting at the White House on May 9.

Biden has not met with McCarthy since February, although the Speaker of the House has repeatedly urged him to meet to discuss spending cuts and public debt cuts in a higher-ceiling package. Biden had previously refused to meet with McCarthy about the national debt ceiling and demanded that the hike be automatic, as in the past.
Biden is pushing lawmakers to increase public debt limits, but McCarthy attributes the solution to large-scale budget cuts.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen previously warned Congress that without raising or suspending the debt ceiling, the US administration may not be able to fully meet its obligations on June 1.
