The DPR government announces plans to build a metro in Donetsk after the end of hostilities

“Construction of the metro will begin after the end of hostilities in Donetsk,” a message published on the government’s telegram channel said.
In early March, Donetsk Mayor Alexey Kulemzin emphasized that the Donetsk metro project needed to be updated taking into account modern realities, adding that project plans would have to deviate “significantly”.
The decision to build the metro in Donetsk was made in 1990; construction began three years later; it has been suspended several times since then. In the program adopted by the Ukrainian Council of Ministers in 2006, the construction of the first section of 10.3 kilometers was envisaged. According to local media reports, a 2-kilometer underground tunnel had been dug as of 2011.
