The Central Bank of Russia is examining the imposition of commissions on foreign currency accounts and, if necessary, will take supervisory measures.
The department added that it understands the concerns of credit institutions due to the risks of working with the currency, but believes they should not worsen the terms of service for existing customers.
In the case of current accounts opened by citizens, the regulator will examine whether the introduction of commissions or their increase complies with the terms of the concluded agreements, and the agreements themselves – with the requirements of the law, and in case of violation will take supervisory measures. found. The Central Bank will send an appropriate notification letter to the banks.
At the same time, the ministry stressed that such changes in the terms of the contract violate the law on banks and banking activities.
The regulator concluded, “Therefore, banks cannot set commissions for foreign currency deposits that have already been opened”.
A day ago, Tinkoff Bank announced that from June 23, it will begin charging foreign currency accounts – US dollars, euros, pounds sterling and Swiss francs – for service. With the balance of more than 1000 conventional units, the commission will be 1% per month.
