Handelsblatt: Venezuela will supply 3.8 million barrels of oil to Italian concern Eni
BERLIN, 13 June – RIA Novosti. Venezuela will supply 3.8 million barrels of oil to the Italian concern Eni, Spanish Repsol – “probably the same volume”, reported The Handelsblatt newspaper cites a source in German government circles.
“As Handelsblatt learned from government circles in Berlin, the deal with Eni provides a volume of 3.8 million barrels. The deal with Repsol will likely be of the same volume. Oil supplies should be offset by Venezuela’s outstanding debt. To Eni and Repsol – ie. The money will not come,” the newspaper writes.
Earlier, the US government had already extended the license of the American Chevron group, which allowed it to negotiate with the Venezuelan state company PDVSA. As Handelsblatt wrote, neither the Ministry of Economy nor the German Foreign Ministry made an official comment on the deal with Caracas. Eni also declined to comment.
According to Handelsblatt, the federal government in Berlin is currently “trying to find out, through its diplomatic channels, whether the agreements are one-time exceptions or whether Americans want to facilitate oil exports from Venezuela in general in the near future.”
