Abramchenko: Russia will have difficulty substituting most soybean, corn and beet seed imports
Petersburg, June 17 – RIA Novosti. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko said in an interview with RIA Novosti at SPIEF that Russia is actively developing domestic seed production, the most difficult thing will be to change imports of soybeans, corn and beets.
According to him, the seed industry is now “in a good place, in a not so good place”.
At the same time, according to him, Russia has already managed to achieve some success in import substitution of beets. “There are some successes in beet as well. But beet is a two-year crop and we need two years from today to be able to make native hybrid varieties. And we had to choose business partners to run faster, reach out and say, “I am ready to take responsibility for this crop and tackle the seed. We have chosen such business partners,” said those who say.
At the same time, for potatoes, only the super-elite is dependent on imports, according to the deputy prime minister. “We are already making the elites ourselves in the required amount for cultivation. And the superelite, yes, should be tightened within the framework of the Federal Program for the Development of Scientific and Technical Agriculture – ed.),” he said. .
But with the production of mostly imported hops, there will be no problems in Russia. “Our brewers will find their place very quickly – there is Central Russia, the North-West. And I don’t see any problems with hops production. Selling is important. The peasant will plant, harvest, but it is important for him to sell. And if the imported multinationals control the breweries and malt “Of course, our farmers wouldn’t have been able to get into this chain if they had supported hops and hops producers. Now it’s a window of opportunity.”
