French Minister Pannier-Runachet: Russia’s natural gas imports decreased but not stopped

PARIS, June 23 – RIA Novosti. Agnès Pannier-Runachet, French Minister of Energy Transition statedHe said that Russia’s natural gas imports fell but did not stop.

“Today we are in a situation where we continue to import Russian gas, but in smaller quantities,” he said on the BFMTV channel.

He also added that France could theoretically do without supplies from Russia.

“This assumes that all LNG carriers arrive on time and we can comfortably fill our strategic storage facility and those passing through Spain today are operating,” Pannier-Runachet said. Said.

It also depends, according to him, on supplies from Norway and Algeria.

French energy company Engie reported last week that there has been a reduction in gas supplies “following new restrictions on exports by Russia.” Similar statements were made in Italy, Austria and other countries.

Now the main way of transporting raw materials from Russia to Europe is the Nord Stream gas pipeline.

As Gazprom reported on June 14, due to the fact that the German concern Siemens did not return the equipment in time after repair, the company can use only three gas pumping units at the Portovaya compressor station. The next day, the Russian company announced that it had stopped another Siemens gas turbine in Portovaya and that it would not be able to send more than 67 million cubic meters of gas per day to the Nord Stream versus the planned 167 million from June 16.

According to Bloomberg, key equipment for the operation of the gas pipeline cannot return after maintenance from Canada due to anti-Russian sanctions. A turbine that must be subject to MOT cannot be sent abroad. Citing the Canadian Department of Natural Resources, Reuters said Ottawa and Berlin are holding consultations on turbine status.

Despite this, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi expressed the view that the reasons for the decrease in supply were political.

In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that Russia has no intention. He repeatedly reminded that Moscow does not use gas supplies to punish anyone.
