French Cabinet Member: Risk of gas shortage in Europe if Russia cuts supply

PARIS, 13 July – RIA Novosti. French Cabinet spokesman Olivier Veran said there is a serious risk of gas shortages in Europe if gas supplies from Russia are cut off.

“There is a risk of gas shortages, which France and Europe take extremely seriously. In the face of this threat (stopping gas supply from the Russian Federation – ed.), we increase the occupancy at our gas storage facilities to 100. In addition, we diversify the gas supply … But yes, there is a serious risk of gas shortages,” Veran said at a government briefing Wednesday.

Earlier, French Minister of Energy Conversion Agnès Pannier-Runachet said authorities are taking drastic measures to prepare for winter by increasing the filling of gas storage facilities.

In recent days, fears have been increasingly expressed in France that Russia could completely shut down gas supplies to Europe. The European Commission plans to submit a plan to the European Union in July if Russia’s gas supplies come to a complete halt.
