“Due to the unprecedented nature of the voting irregularities identified in the 2022 contest, a working group of EBU members was formed to consider ways to preserve voting integrity,” the statement said.
From now on, only the audience will decide which countries will make it to the finals. The Eurovision jury will only be allowed to evaluate at the final stage. In addition, for the first time in the history of the competition, viewers from countries that did not participate in the competition will be able to choose the winner.
The statement also added, “Viewers from non-participating countries will be able to vote through a secure online platform using their country’s credit card.”
“Everyone who watches Eurovision, no matter where they live in the world, can vote for their favorite songs,” the EBU said. At the same time, no separate statement was made about Russia, which withdrew from the competition this year.
Eurovision 2023 will be held in Liverpool from 9 to 13 May. The European Broadcasting Union has decided not to hold the competition in Ukraine, although the country won in 2022.
