Playing an important pop culture character is never easy, just as it’s hard to take that label off to gain access to other projects: Theo James, who played Tobias in the Divergent trilogy, knows this well.
Theo James experienced fame thanks to the trilogy divergent at the cinema. Based on the novels of the same name Veronica Roth, the story told is set in a dystopian universe where the city of Chicago divides the people into five different factions to accommodate change. The first Divergent movie was released in 2011. rebel in 2015 and loyallast chapter, in 2016. There was a fourth chapter on the list of the saga, Ascendant, but it never came to that. And, according to Theo James, removing the “Divergent” label from his career was as difficult as distancing himself from the character he played.

In particular, Theo James refers to type casting, a process no doubt familiar to actors such as Daniel Radcliffe (for Harry Potter), in which a certain actor is identified by the character he played. It was also the biggest challenge Theo James faced after he starred in Divergent. The actress spoke about this in a recent interview. Vanity Fair USA:
When you agree to make a certain type of film, you sign contracts that require you to fulfill that role for a certain period of time, and people start to see you in a different light that you need to fight against. It happens to a lot of actors and it definitely happened to me.
In the Divergent saga, Theo James played co-star Tobias, known simply as Four, who is related to Tris Pryor, the character played by Shailene Woodley. Some time later, and after the minor success achieved by the third film, the actor, now busy with the second season of The White Lotus, spoke about how he lived through this period and spoke honestly about the experience of the YA dystopian saga.
A career is fun, it takes you in different directions that you try to control, but life is unpredictable. I felt that I lacked the flexibility to move in the direction I needed. You are stuck in one role and those roles can be very boring.
Despite a dystopian interlude that spanned three films, Theo James also had the opportunity to star in other projects for the big and small screens. He has appeared in films such as Power Plays, The End, The Art of Conning and Mr. Malcolm’s List, and recently took on the role of Cameron in White Lotus in which there is very little boredom.
