Valery Gergiev: Russian music has no problems, those who want to stop it have problems
BEIJING, March 27 – RIA Novosti. Russian conductor Valery Gergiev said at a press conference that Russian music does not face problems and that there are those who think they can stop it.
“Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Rimsky-Korsakov are not only popular, they are not only loved, but also have the highest priority for hundreds of millions of people around the world … I am not worried about Russian composers, I am not at all worried about Russian music. It is our music that conflicts with problems not people who believe they can stop Russian or Italian music,” Gergiev replied.
According to him, “it’s too late to try to stop Tchaikovsky.”
The maestro added that the music does not belong to individual nations that include specific composers.
