Court refuses to reconsider actress Amber Heard’s libel case against Johnny Depp
WASHINGTON, July 14 – RIA Novosti. According to the New York Post’s report, the court rejected American actress Amber Heard’s request for a new lawsuit to be filed against her ex-husband Johnny Depp’s claim.
“A court in Virginia denied Heard’s request for a new hearing in Depp’s case,” the publication said.
Heard was found guilty of defaming Depp and was fined $15 million in damages. Later, the amount was reduced: Amber has to pay 10.35 million dollars.
The player’s lawyers appealed the decision. They noted that there was an error in the file about one of the jurors: in particular, his age was incorrectly stated. According to them, such oversight can question the quality of jury control and therefore cast doubt on the court’s decision.
Depp filed a $50 million lawsuit over a newspaper article in which Heard complained of his experience of domestic violence. In response, Hurd demanded $100 million from Depp, accusing his lawyer of defaming him. After the defeat in court, Hurd said she was disappointed with her ex-husband’s decision, which he described as “disproportionately powerful, influential and powerful”.
