Large-scale ethnic festival “India Day” opens in Moscow in the park “Dream Island”

MOSCOW, August 11 – RIA Novosti. The large-scale ethnic festival “India Day” will begin on Thursday in the Moscow landscape park “Dream Island”.

Guests are expected to be from 10:00 to 22:00 on 11-14 August, admission is free. The program includes yoga classes, cooking classes, traditional dance and music, an Indian produce fair and Bollywood movies.

For example, today, August 11, the musical melodrama “Disco Dancer” will be shown. The film is considered a classic of the genre and is best known for the songs Goro ki na kalo ki, I ama a Disco Dancer and Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja. This year the film turns 40 and the festival will celebrate this date. Evening movie screenings are planned for all days of the holiday, but the sessions are paid.

The festival also caters to those who wish to pre-register to hold a wedding ceremony according to the traditional Indian ritual.

On the main stage, more than 500 non-stop artists will give a magnificent four-day concert.

On Saturday, August 13, a procession of Ratha Yatra chariots awaits guests. Traditional songs and dances of the people in national costumes will be accompanied. In addition, the audience will distribute fruit.

On the evening of August 14, Holi, the legendary festival of bright colors, will take place. Celebrated all over the world, there are references to the celebration in ancient Sanskrit texts. During the “India Day” festival, they promise “a riot of colors and a sea of ​​emotions.”

The event is organized by the National Cultural Center “Sita” of India. The holiday will be held in Moscow for the seventh time, and this year is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and India.

Sammy, the founder of the festival, said, “We will introduce the Russians to our Kumbh Mela holiday. The culmination is a bath in the Ganges. We made a special pool and added water from the holy river to it. So it symbolizes the Ganges.” The head of the Sita Center told RIA Novosti Kotvani.

According to him, 75 apple trees will also be planted as part of the event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence from the British Empire. Kotwani noted that India’s Ambassador to Russia and other important guests will be present at the festival.
