The price of oil did not rise as much as the price of gas. Reason enough for many to buy an oil heater. Demand has increased significantly.
Oil heaters are now in greater demand again. “From the beginning of January to the end of July, twelve percent more diesel heaters were delivered by manufacturers than in the previous year,” a spokesperson for the German Federal Association for the Heating Industry (BDH) told the German broadcast network.
12% increase over the previous year
Accordingly, approximately 29,000 systems were launched in Germany between January and July. According to BDH, there were about 45,500 oil heaters in the entire previous year. The overall market for heat generators is 930,000 units delivered per year.
Although heating oil has also become significantly more expensive in recent months, the price increases are not as high as for gas. According to calculations by comparison portal Verivox, gas became about 235 percent more expensive in a year, and heating oil 114 percent more expensive, according to the RND report.
Policy: From 2024 – pure oil heating only in exceptional cases
From 2024, the federal government wants to allow the installation of pure oil heating systems only in exceptional circumstances. However, hybrid systems are allowed, combining fossil burners with solar or heat pumps, meeting 65 percent of the heat needs with renewable technologies.
According to the RND report, BDH assumes that by 2045, 1.36 million “oil and bio-oil heating systems” will still be installed in Germany.
