Volcanic activity shaped the Canaries and shaped the face of the islands. Rugged shores, black beaches and crater views meet green nature and the deep blue of the Atlantic. While touring the islands, the film crew discovers the diversity of the islands.
From La Palma to La Gomera
The first stop of the journey is La Palma. None of the Canary sister islands is as volcanically active as “La Isla Bonita”, which locals refer to as La Palma. In 2021 there will be a devastating eruption that will hang the island for weeks and change the landscape forever.
Before setting off, the film crew explores the island’s capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma. Renaissance façades and ramparts in the historic old town bear witness to a vibrant past.
Continue to La Gomera. The second smallest island of the archipelago has largely escaped mass tourism and attracts visitors with its pristine nature and diverse flora and fauna.
From Tenerife via Lanzarote to Fuerteventura
The team visits the municipality of La Orotava in Tenerife. Founded by Spanish settlers in the 14th century, it is one of the oldest cities in the Canary Islands. Due to the abundance of water, many mills were built here and some of them can still be visited today.
Lanzarote is the northernmost of the Canary Islands. The historic center of Teguise, the island’s former capital, is characterized by narrow, cobbled streets and impressive city palaces.
The journey ends in Fuerteventura. Fuerteventura is closer to the Moroccan mainland than any of the other Canary Islands and is considered a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. One of the most historically significant places on the island is the village of Betancuria. Founded by the Norman nobleman Jean de Béthencourt, the city was once the capital of the island.
The documentary series “Traumorte” presents the most beautiful travel destinations in the world.
