Reaching your destination on time – this is not always possible by train. According to an evaluation, punctuality on the railway will have decreased significantly in 2022.
In 2022, almost a third of long-distance rail passengers arrived at their destination at least 15 minutes late.
According to the Federal Ministry of Transport’s response to the representation, only 70.6 percent of passengers arrived at their destination less late. It was made available to the German Press Agency in Berlin.
Traveler’s punctuality decreased
The so-called punctuality of passengers showed a deterioration of ten percentage points from 2021 to 2022. In 2017, 86 percent of passengers reached their destination in less than 15 minutes.
The railway publishes monthly how many stops were reached with a delay of less than six minutes (63.4 percent for long-distance transport in August). However, it is not possible to conclude from this how often connections are missed or trains are canceled completely.
Therefore, the passenger’s punctuality is closer to the passengers’ actual travel experience because a missed connection also affects the statistics. It is also recorded by the railways, but it is not published regularly.
