The donation was made during an official ceremony as part of the Emirates Airlines Literature Festival activities and the result of the mission’s partnership with the Mohammed bin Rashid Library and the Emirates Literature Foundation, organizer of the Emirates Literature Festival.
The replica was first shown outside the United States at the American Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai. The copy is in two volumes and is believed to be the second edition of a translation published in 1734 by the English orientalist George Salle.
Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States – 1801-1809 – took a special interest in various religious beliefs and acquired this copy in 1765 while studying law at the age of 22.
