Bloomberg: US should ‘hit’ Saudi Arabia as it turns towards Russia
MOSCOW, October 7 – RIA Novosti. US President Joe Biden should hit Saudi Arabia for a joint deal with OPEC and Russia to reduce oil production by two million barrels a day. About author Bloomberg columnist Bobby Ghosh.
According to the author, the United States needs to put an end to the “special” position of the Middle Eastern kingdom in American foreign policy and lower the level of diplomatic relations with this country. The columnist said Saudi Arabia should now have the same “traditional rights” as Malaysia or Brunei.
“No more fake symbiotic relationships, no fake thanks or clumsy tricks,” Ghosh writes.
The journalist believes these measures will “hurt the proud prince” more than Washington’s empty chatter about the harsh consequences.
This week, the OPEC+ countries agreed to cut oil production by two million barrels per day from November and use the agreed production levels for August as a baseline. The alliance explained its decision with the uncertainties in the global economy and forecasts regarding the oil market. Despite the emerging energy crisis in Europe and rising energy prices in other parts of the world, this step was supported by all the participants of the agreement.
As The Hill columnist Simon Henderson points out, the decision to cut production will deal a bitter blow to US leader Joe Biden and block Democrats in the midterm congressional elections that begin next month.
