Foreign Minister Baerbock once again criticized the Iranian government and announced sanctions against the country. The cries of the Iranian people are “deafening”.
Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) announced that more sanctions would be imposed on Iran. “We will ensure that the EU imposes entry bans on those responsible for this brutal repression and freezes their presence in the EU,” said Baerbock of the “Bild am Sonntag” newspaper. He harshly criticized the government in Tehran.
The cries of the people on the streets of Iran are deafening. Baerbock said only that the Tehran government is deaf. The Greens politicians promised the Iranian people that solidarity will not diminish.
Three weeks of protests
Mass protests have been held in Iran for the past three weeks against the death of Mahsa Amini. The young Kurd died on September 16, after being arrested by the auxiliary team in Tehran three days ago for allegedly not wearing the headscarf in accordance with the rules.
According to activists, he was beaten and died of a head injury while in police custody. Police deny any responsibility for the young woman’s death.
FDP seeks additional measures against Iran
The FDP also spoke in favor of further sanctions against Tehran. As “Bild am Sonntag” reported, the Presidium of Liberals urged the federal government to take further action against Iran in a draft resolution, without the EU, if necessary, in an alliance of willing countries in Europe.
