Post: Esken: Germany is having a good winter

Categories

SPD leader Saskia Esken expects Germany to have a good winter despite the energy crisis. The reason for their optimism is the planned energy price brakes.

According to SPD leader Saskia Esken, Germany will have a good winter with planned energy price brakes. Esken told “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” that they are powerful tools to bring consumer prices down to a reasonable level.

“At the same time, they represent major market interventions. Time is of the essence, but we should not risk quick fixes.” The appraisal commission for the gasoline price brake also meets at the weekend. The federal government is waiting for the proposal Monday and has announced it will act quickly.

Esken: Don’t leave anyone alone

Esken said that Germany is a strong country. “With joint efforts, we will get through the winter well. We will not leave anyone alone in this difficult situation.” This applies to consumers and social institutions, such as companies of all sizes.

Meanwhile, Industry President Siegfried Russwurm urged consumers to save energy despite the planned gas price curb. “There is no other way,” he told Welt am Sonntag. More than 90 percent of the stores are better than expected, but not enough. Buying more from the remaining resources is important – saving money, too.

Are gas prices falling to previous levels?

Also, no price brake can undermine the world market. Gas prices will not fall to their previous levels for the foreseeable future. Frank Werneke, president of the Verdi union, asked that the gas price brake not be set “too low to be realistic”.

Werneke told the “Rheinische Post” that former residents were unable to regularly save more than 20 percent of their consumption this winter. “It’s important to make sure that the gas price brake – and the electric price brake, by the way – doesn’t become an aerial action anymore.”
