Selenskyj surrenders to Klitschko

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy criticized Kyiv Mayor Klitschko for tackling power cuts. The president says too many blackouts, not enough heating rooms.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has criticized the Kyiv city government’s efforts to repair damage following major Russian attacks on energy supplies. “600,000 subscribers in the city were shut down tonight,” Zelenskyj said in his evening video address on Friday.

Many Kyiv citizens were left without electricity for more than 20 or even 30 hours.

Selenskyj: There are very few heating rooms in Kiev

The President did not name Mayor Vitali Klitschko. He was particularly angry that the capital of three million had fewer heating rooms than needed.

Klitschko reported in the morning that 400 of these contact points had been established. Citizens should be able to warm up there during power cuts lasting more than one day; Electricity, water, first aid and internet should be available. “There are a lot of complaints, especially in Kiev,” Zelenskyj said.

Power outages after Russian attacks

In fact, there are only working warm-up rooms in the civil defense buildings and the train station. “There is still more work to be done in other areas, to put it mildly. Kyiv residents need more protection,” said the president.

Zelenskyj said six million consumption points nationwide are still without electricity. There were twelve million points of consumption on Wednesday evening after the Russian attack. He warned people to be thrifty, even in the light. “Just because it’s electric doesn’t mean you can turn on multiple powerful electrical devices at the same time.

Klitschko acted as a rival to Selenskyj in the elections

Consumption peaks every evening, leading to new power cuts. Selenskyj and Klitschko suspended their political rivalry during the war. But as the President’s statements show, it continues.
