19 climate activists were detained in Bavaria – now they are all free again. But “The Last Generation” announced a “breath”.
All 19 climate activists, held in preventive detention for more than two weeks for actions in the blockade in Bavaria, left Munich’s Stadelheim prison on Saturday morning.
Munich police announced that an assessment on Friday evening had concluded that the conditions of detention no longer exist. At the request of the affected, they were no longer released at night, but only in the morning.
One of the hunger strike activists
After two successive blockades at the beginning of November, the Munich police detained a total of 13 climate activists in Bavaria for as many as possible 30 days. The reason given was that those affected had publicly declared other crimes by the end of their detention on 2 December.
One of these activists started a hunger strike on 16 November. Six other activists were preemptively detained on Monday.
“The Last Generation” is breathing
On Friday evening, the “Last Generation” group also announced that they want to stop their protests in Munich and Berlin by the end of next week. “You can guarantee free travel and flights,” said a statement from Berlin.
Spokesperson Aimée van Baalen said society and politics “could take a little breather to appease fiery spirits”. They want to give the government room to “resolutely oppose its mandate in accordance with climate collapse”.
“Last Generation” demands that the federal government continue to use the nine-euro ticket and introduce a speed limit as “first security measures against climate collapse”.
