US President Biden’s beach house targeted by investigators: FBI officials searched the house for classified documents but found no more.
FBI agents searched another home belonging to US President Joe Biden on Wednesday and found no classified documents.
Biden’s attorney, Bob Bauer, said officers received some handwritten notes and other materials from his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, for review. They apparently date back to when Biden was Vice President under Barack Obama.
According to Bauer, FBI agents spent about three and a half hours in the house. The search was part of the investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents. His lawyer stressed that the action was coordinated with the FBI.
Bauer had previously said:
Documents found in Biden’s office and home
In recent months, classified documents have been found in a former office of Biden and the President’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, on the east coast of the United States. The documents date from his time as Vice President under President Barack Obama and from his earlier time as a U.S. Senator.
The first slice of classified documents was discovered on November 2, shortly before the US congressional elections. The White House emphasizes that Biden’s lawyers immediately reported the situation to the National Archives. But the public only learned about it in January when broadcaster CBS made the news. In response to the initial discovery, Biden’s team later looked elsewhere.
A spokesperson for White House Counsel Ian Sams on Wednesday defended the government’s approach to the Biden findings.
A U.S. law requires presidents and vice presidents to turn over all their emails, letters, and other documents to the National Archives after leaving office.
The US Department of Justice has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the incident. The relationship is pretty explosive for Biden, who is looking to decide on a new presidential nomination in the coming weeks or months, partly because of the parallels with his predecessor, Donald Trump.
Raid on Trump’s home in August
The FBI had already searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida last August and seized several classified documents in which Biden had harshly criticized Trump.
After leaving the White House, Trump kept a large amount of secret government records on his private property in Florida. The FBI raided the property in August and confiscated thousands of documents, including about 100 classified documents. Trump is accused of wanting to block the investigation.
It was revealed last week that secret files were also found at the home of Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence.
In Trump’s case, Garland also employed an independent private investigator for the politically sensitive investigation – the Republican also announced a renewed presidential filing and criticized the investigation against him for political motives.
Biden has also repeatedly expressed his general intention to run again in the 2024 presidential election. He has not yet made his final decision public.
