Post: Israel attacks targets in the Gaza Strip

Categories

The Israeli Air Force launched attacks on targets in the Gaza Strip. The military said Israel responded to a rocket fired from Palestinian territory on Wednesday.

Shortly after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s visit to the Middle East, the Israeli air force launched attacks on targets in Palestine’s Gaza Strip on Thursday night.

Israel: Attacks target Hamas

The airstrikes targeted rocket and weapons production facilities of the radical Islamist group Hamas on Wednesday in response to a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli military. There were no immediate reports of dead or injured.

Neither Hamas nor the smaller Iran-backed Islamic Jihad movement, which fired rockets at Israel last week, claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s rocket.

The situation in the Middle East is very tense

The situation between Israel and the Palestinians is currently extremely tense. Ten Palestinians were killed when Israeli soldiers raided a refugee camp in the West Bank a week ago.

A day later, a Palestinian killed seven people, including a child, in an attack in front of a synagogue in Jerusalem. Since then, both sides have repeatedly attacked each other with rockets.

Flashing calls for supervision

At the end of his visit to the region on Tuesday, Blinken called for moderation, given the recent escalation of violence in the Middle East conflict. He reiterated the US position that the only way to find a permanent solution to the conflict is a two-state solution.

The United States is seen as Israel’s most important partner and an important supplier of military equipment.
