According to Ukraine, Bakhmut remains controversial, repelling new attacks in the eastern Ukrainian city. The Russian Wagner Group, on the other hand, sees itself on the rise.
According to the military leadership in Kiev, the defenders of the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine repelled a large number of Russian attacks on Thursday. The situation report of the General Staff in Kiev said that Russian artillery shelled a number of small towns around Bakhmut.
Russian troops are besieging the city from three sides and have been trying to completely encircle Bakhmut for weeks.
Wagner Group: Almost in the center of Bachmut
The Russian Wagner group had previously stated that they had penetrated almost to the center of the city of Bakhmut, for which it had been fought for months. People close to Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the mercenary group, posted a video on Telegram, the text messaging service that said to show Wagner mercenaries “almost in the city center” of Bakhmut. Prigoshin explains that the recordings are from Thursday morning.
At first, it was not possible to independently verify the location of the shooting. The video shows men in uniform waving the Wagner flag over a half-ruined high-rise building. The Ukrainian general staff recently said that the Russian army is advancing towards Bakhmut and attacking the city. But the Ukrainian army continues to fend off the attacks.
Artillery raids near Cherson and Zaporozhye
In the south, on other fronts near Cherson and Zaporizhia, repeated Russian artillery attacks caused unrest. At several points, the Ukrainian military recorded attempts by Russian reconnaissance teams to explore possible starting points for subsequent attacks.
