Following the arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, China has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to avoid double standards and respect the immunity of heads of state.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a news conference that the court should maintain an “objective and impartial stance” and “respect the immunity of heads of state under international law.”
Wang urged the ICC to “avoid” “politicization and double standards”. China is not a party to the court.

“The crimes are alleged to have been committed in the territory occupied by Ukraine since February 24, 2022,” the International Criminal Court said in a statement.
The Criminal Court does not have its own police forces and relies on member states to arrest suspects and transfer them to The Hague.
The criminal court is supported by 123 states, but less so than Russia, China, and the United States.
