Criticism of Russia’s Presidency of the Security Council

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba speaks of a “slap”: Russia’s planned presidency of the UN Security Council has drawn sharp criticism.


Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) speaks at the special session of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

Amid ongoing criticism of the war of aggression in Ukraine, Russia assumed the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council on Saturday. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba called it “a slap in the face of the international community” on Twitter. He urged members of the Security Council to “frustrate Russia’s attempts to abuse its presidency”. Russia is “illegal” in the UN Security Council.
