European Parliament recommends granting Ukraine EU candidate state status
MOSCOW, 8 June/ Radio Sputnik. Members of the European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution calling for Ukraine to be granted candidate status for EU membership, transmits Referring to the AP statement RIA Novosti.
The resolution was supported by 438 parliamentarians, 65 of whom voted against.
The authors of the document also proposed “to establish a legal mechanism for the confiscation of frozen Russian assets and funds to compensate and restore Ukraine.”
Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said most countries are against granting Ukraine EU candidate status.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, during her visit to Kyiv, gave Volodymyr Zelensky a questionnaire to start negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the union.
Zelensky then handed the completed questionnaire to Mati Maasikas, head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported when Moldova expects to receive EU candidate status.
