US politician Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan has had a polarizing effect, but she remains committed to her stance. She calmly responds to the threatened sanctions: “Who cares?”
Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, defended her controversial Taiwan visit. “We will not allow China to isolate Taiwan,” the Democratic politician said in Washington.
For example, the People’s Republic prevents Taiwan from becoming a member of the World Health Organization. “But they don’t stop us from going to Taiwan,” Pelosi said.
Biden: Army doesn’t think it’s a good idea
Criticism came especially from China and other countries during his visit at the beginning of the month. Referring to the US military’s assessment of the visit, Pelosi said, “I don’t remember ever telling us not to travel.”
“I don’t think the military thinks this is a good idea right now,” Democratic President Joe Biden said ahead of Pelosi’s visit.
China sees the visit as a provocation
In response to the US politician’s visit to Taiwan, China was conducting large-scale military exercises around the democratic island republic last week, as well as a conquest. China views the visit as a provocation and a violation of its own sovereignty.
The Chinese leadership refuses official contacts with Taiwan from other countries, as they consider the island part of the People’s Republic. On the other hand, Taiwan has long considered itself independent.
