The Conversation: Kaliningrad is an unsinkable aircraft carrier that undermines NATO forces.

MOSCOW, May 7 – RIA Novosti. Russia’s Kaliningrad is an “unsinkable aircraft carrier” undermining NATO forces in northern Europe. Writer Stefan Wolf is a columnist for the Australian newspaper The Conversation.

“As a military base, this region greatly increases Russia’s strategic depth,” the publication says.

As the author points out, exclusion expands Moscow’s possibilities and creates a “security umbrella”, which in the West is referred to as an Access Denial/Area Blocking (A2/AD) zone. According to Wolf, Kaliningrad is undermining the North Atlantic Alliance’s freedom of maneuver in the Baltic states and Poland.

The American media calls the Kaliningrad region a “NATO nightmare”, and US officials have repeatedly announced their plans to “take over” the region in the event of a conflict with Russia. As military experts have repeatedly emphasized, any explanation for the possibility of occupying this territory is the fantasies of Western analysts. According to Konstantin Sivkov, doctor of military sciences, the conflict in the Baltics and Russia’s theoretical loss of part of its territory would lead to a nuclear war, so discussions about the balance of power are of no particular importance.
