Paikin described lowering the retirement age for athletes as a matter of social justice.
MOSCOW, September 23 – RIA Novosti. State Duma deputy Boris Paykin from the Liberal Democratic Party supported the idea of lowering the retirement age for athletes and described it as a social justice issue.
The head of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics (VFCG), Irina Viner, previously supported the idea of reducing the retirement age for athletes.
The deputy noted that a number of prominent athletes and coaches, including Ekaterina Gamova and Irina Viner, have proposed lowering the retirement age for professional athletes.
According to him, heavy loads affect the health of our athletes, and with age, injuries without sports make themselves felt.
“Reducing the retirement age will make the athlete feel more secure. No one is saying that he will stop coaching when he reaches retirement age. We know their dedication and we understand that they will be in the last place. But this category of citizens should have the right to early retirement. It is a matter of social justice,” he said.
The press service of the deputy noted that today athletes, like most other citizens, retire at the age of 65 (male) and 60 (female). This age is expected to be reduced to approximately 45 years. -0-
