Boxing Scene: American Stevenson stripped of WBC and WBO titles after weigh-in
MOSCOW, September 23 – RIA Novosti. According to Boxing Scene, American boxer Shakur Stevenson was stripped of the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) titles for failing to meet the weight class prior to his fight against Brazilian Robson Conceicao.
The weight of the 25-year-old American was 1.6 pounds (0.725 kg) above the norm for the second featherweight (130 pounds – 58.967 kg) – 131.6 pounds (59.7 kg). Two hours later she refused a second scale. Conceicao, 33, weighed 57.4 kg.
The Brazilian has the opportunity to win vacant WBC and WBO titles as he does not refuse to fight. According to the source, the handlers of Conceicao were fined $3 million for Stevenson and also paid $20,000 for his fight for exceeding the contract limit.
