Olympic Committees of Scandinavian countries urged to continue suspension of Russians
MOSCOW, September 23 – RIA Novosti. The National Olympic and Paralympic Committees of Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland have issued a joint statement calling for continued removal of Russian athletes from international competitions, text available on the Finnish NOC website.
On September 8, International Olympic Committee (IOC) Communications Director Mark Adams said that all the IOC’s protective measures and sanctions against Russians continue to work.
At the end of February, the IOC recommended that international sports federations not allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Most IFs have followed this advice.
The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Secretary General Michel Vion said on Thursday that the organization is considering allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete. The decision will be made in December.
