Spartak players defeated Zenit in the Russian Cup match
MOSCOW, September 29 – RIA Novosti. Moscow “Spartak” football players in the home match of the third round of the group stage of the Russian Cup in St. Petersburg defeated “Zenith”.
The Group B match in Moscow ended with a score of 3:0 in favor of the “red-whites”. The goals were scored by Quincy Promes (79, 90+6) and Alexander Sobolev (87).

The Red-Whites were held on November 27, 2017 in St. Petersburg, after winning the previous victory over the club, then in the match of the Russian Championship Spartak came out stronger with a score of 3: 1. Since then, the teams have held 11 meetings in various tournaments – Zenit won nine victories, two more draws were recorded. Spartak defeated Zenit for the first time in 16 years: In 2006, the Red-Whites beat the Blue-White-Blues 4:1 in the Russian Championship match. Sergei Semak lost to Spartak for the first time as Zenit’s head coach.
The matches of the third round of the group stage of the Russian Cup begin with a minute of silence in memory of the victims who were shot at the Izhevsk school.
“Spartak” scored 9 points and continues to lead the group standings. It is followed by Samara “Wings of the Soviets” (6 points), “Zenith” (3) and Voronezh “Torch” (0). In the fourth round, Spartak will play away against Fakel on October 19, while Zenit will host Wings of the Soviets the next day.
In the group round of the RPL route, the teams are divided into four groups and play in two rounds. The top two places will qualify for the playoffs on the way to the RPL. Teams that finish third will play in the regional playoffs.
