Canadian lawyer McLaren confirms honesty of International Boxing Association Congress
MOSCOW, October 6 – RIA Novosti. Canadian lawyer Professor Richard McLaren, who has previously investigated anti-doping rule violations in Russian sports, confirmed the integrity of the International Boxing Association (IBA) Congress in Yerevan, after which Russian Umar Kremlev remained president of the organization. an IBA version.
At the organization’s congress in Istanbul on 14 May, Kremlev was re-elected for a new term. He then remained the only candidate after his rival, Boris van der First, was ousted. The Dutch objected to this decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) and won the case. Kremlev and van der First would run for president in new elections. At the IBA’s extraordinary congress in Yerevan on September 25, representatives of the national federations voted against the re-election of the organization’s president.
McLaren conducted an independent investigation into the IBA’s governing body for the organization’s mismanagement and misconduct in past years, as well as the future of the sport at the Olympics.
In 2019, the IOC suspended the membership of the IBA (later AIBA) due to the organization’s failure to comply with the committee’s requirements. The boxing tournament at the Olympics was saved, but at the Tokyo Games it was done by a special commission of the IOC. In June, the IOC announced that the boxing tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics would not be held under the auspices of the IBA, although the IOC has not yet determined the qualifying conditions.
