Post: Hidden control. Why did figure skating introduce a code of ethics?

Categories

I can imagine how my colleagues from other publications, and I already got the Russian Figure Skating Federation. We do not want to perform the functions of a press service and work in a positive way. Either we will write about Trusova’s transition before Alexander Kogan finds out about it, then we will focus on the problems of eating behavior in the national team, then we will quote bloggers from hostile countries, then we will doubt the objectivity of refereeing in competitions. And sometimes terrible things happen. Journalists will find the last athlete in the world who is not afraid to speak yet, but how they will begin to ask him insidious, direct and hypothetical questions. He will not only escape his stupidity and hypnosis, he will tell you how it happened – both good and bad. That there was a misunderstanding with the coach, that sometimes the results of the competition are not honest, and relations with classmates are not as calm as they seem on TV. In general, no crime. You can draw a parallel with any sphere of life of each of us. We all sometimes get along with our colleagues and friends, do not get along with our superiors and parents, experience crises, and feel injustice in various situations. Life Is Not A Love is sticking gum with cute pictures. It’s bigger, sharper, and definitely better because it’s real. And they have problems, but they can be solved if we talk about them. Silence turns society’s one-time problem into a systemic one. Like a parasite in the human body, it begins to harm the well-being and hinder development.

It doesn’t get any cleaner than the rubbish swept under the carpet in the room. The old saying about not removing dirty sheets from the shed is a hypocritical slur that is only suitable for those who throw the most garbage.

We are not implying anything, but in the FFKKR, for some reason, a group of responsible people decided to use this atavism to the maximum – to completely seize control of the hidden sphere. But how to do? According to the internal documents of the federation, it is forbidden to talk to the main characters – athletes, coaches, judges, team officials. Ban on the pretext of taking care of the “immaculate reputation of the FFKKR community” (this is an excerpt), as well as under the threat of various penalties – fines and cancellation of competitions and tournament results from publication on the FFKKR website to denial of entry.

Let’s talk about the positive. There are enough problems “under the rug”, but it’s great that the federation has acknowledged it and offered legal and judicial solutions at the same time! The resolution is nicely called the “Code of Ethics”. Ethics is something about morality and morality. What if morality and morality in the form of a code help make sports better, cleaner and more attractive? Let’s say the code will remind coaches of all levels that athletes deserve human treatment and that athletes of every rank and title should be respected as a coach.

Maybe the code will establish a calm professional relationship with group-to-group transition issues? It will show that there are no serfs, that the athlete and the coach have the right to refuse cooperation without being branded a traitor for both. Ultimately, the general background of the transitions would not be so dire if the federation took the transitions with understanding and some compensation was provided for the loss of an athlete who had invested so much in the coach.

What if the code helped teens stop dieting twice a day? Will he explain to them that violence is bad, that sexual harassment is unacceptable, and that any conflict can be resolved at the negotiating table? The main thing is that everyone is given the opportunity to speak and be heard.

No, this code is not built for anything. Not everyone sees openness and transparency as a blessing. Therefore, the federation perceives the dissemination of any unofficial information as a threat to its existence. He is in no hurry to share accurate and official information. That is, in a hurry, for example, to fix the results of the competition a few days after it ends. Or for the rare, fortunately obituaries. On the website of the federation you will not find up-to-date news that skater Ivanov broke up with the coach, that the investigation into the accusations of skater Petrova was completed with this and that results, and that the dancers Chukov and Gekova were found. they will not honestly change their citizenship. While it’s not usually a problem for the press service to get reliable first-hand information, give it significant weight by posting it in the federation’s official sources and ultimately dispel any bad rumors. That’s a little harder than pretending that even Diana Davis herself doesn’t exist in nature, not to mention her possible future plans to play for the United States. But what would be the profit now and in the future!

First, skaters, trainers, etc. would immediately remove unreliable rumors such as Secondly, trust in the federation will skyrocket if the federation spokesperson’s voice through the press is regularly confirmed by real-life events. No one will make memes about Gorshkov, whom I “do not know” about Aleksey (in fact, a respected Olympic champion and a very pleasant person in personal communication), and all kinds of bloggers from banned social networks will no longer be of interest to anyone.

But the federation offers us a broom in the form of a code, instead of trying to solve real problems and at the same time warming the demand for the audience for figure skating with clarity and accuracy, showing it with all its advantages and disadvantages. It is very convenient to create the illusion of a quick cleaning in the room: do not wear black and white, do not talk about refereeing, inform about transitions, do not run away from the coach, protect your face in case of defeat, do not discuss what was discussed. That’s when we’ll live, it’s a bright future!

Instead of a footnote – a few hypothetical questions that no one can answer anyway. Do you know why? As professional community members are no longer allowed to answer “what if” questions – this is also stated in the code.

What happens if the factor of favoritism in judgment is minimized?

What if schools teach healthy eating habits, not ways to lose weight by eating an apple and a cigarette a day?

What if beating and bruising a partner in pair skating and dancing is considered abnormal?

What if the coaches didn’t throw a student in the trash as punishment for mischief?

What if the code is necessary to keep a face in an uncertain situation not only to the losing athlete, but also to the coach?

What would happen if the interests of all people were taken into account equally, regardless of merit and title?

What if journalists and the “professional community” stop treating each other like enemies?

The author’s view may not coincide with the editors’ position.
