AFP: Mane to be included in Senegal’s World Cup squad despite injury
MOSCOW, November 10 – RIA Novosti. Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane will be included in Senegal’s World Cup squad in Qatar despite his injury, AFP reported, citing a Senegalese Football Federation source.
Earlier, Mane injured the head of the fibula of his right leg in the German championship match against Werder Bremen (6:1). In the coming days, the 30-year-old forward will undergo additional tests. Senegal national team doctor Manuel Afonso flew to Munich to assess the severity of the injury. L’Equipe on Wednesday reported that Mane will miss the World Championship, which kicks off in Qatar on November 20, due to injury.
Mane transferred from Liverpool to Bayern Munich last summer. At the end of the 2021/22 season, the Senegalese was named best African player of the year for the second time in his career. Mane is the top scorer in the history of the Senegal national team, the winner of the African Cup of Nations in 2021. Manet took second place in the voting for the 2022 Ballon d’Or.
The World Championship will be held from 20 November to 18 December. The Senegal national team will compete in Group A with teams from Qatar, Ecuador and the Netherlands. Aliou Cisse, head coach of the African team, will announce the tournament bid on Friday.
